Historical Context

  • Design Recycled from the 2008 50 Bolívares Note: Just like your 20,000 Bolívares note re-used the 20 Bolívares design, this 10,000 Bolívares note directly copied the color scheme and Simón Rodríguez portrait from the original 50 Bolívares note of 2008. The Central Bank of Venezuela had to rapidly produce higher-denomination plates to stay ahead of astronomical inflation numbers.

  • Ephemeral Lifespan: Bearing the emergency print date of December 13, 2017, this note survived in circulation for barely eight months. By August 20, 2018, the Bolívar Soberano redenomination slashed five zeros off the currency, rendering this 10,000-Bolívar note completely obsolete and demonetized.
