Mechanical Error / Variety Breakdown ("Gas Pump" Tens Digit)

  • The Anomaly: Across all four separate, cut notes, the lower-left serial number displays a consistent elevated tens digit 3 (K 218818**3**X A).

  • Visual Evidence: The top horizontal bar of the 3 clearly rises above the level baseline established by the preceding 8 and the trailing unit numbers (5, 6, 7, 8).

  • Why It Appears on All Four Cut Notes:

    • These notes originated from the same sheet position and cylinder pass during production.

    • In the BEP COPE numbering heads, the internal ratchet wheel for the tens digit stuck or locked slightly above its detent position.

    • Because the tens wheel remained parked at 3 while the unit wheel turned through 5, 6, 7, 8, that exact same high-digit alignment printed across every note in this run before the wheel ever rotated to 4.

  • Serial Composition: A crisp 4-note consecutive run (...35 through ...38) featuring high repeating eights (21 88 18 3X).

Condition Assessment

  • Technical Grade: Gem Uncirculated (Gem CU 65 – 66 EPQ across all 4 notes)

  • Paper & Eye Appeal:

    • Surfaces & Body: Pack-fresh, individual cut currency. Pristine bright paper fibers with untouched, sharp intaglio embossing.

    • Handling: Zero folds, bends, counting flicks, or edge waves on any of the four notes.

    • Margins & Cuts: Factory-cut margins are wide, clean, and well-balanced around the borders.

    • Corners: Every note features needle-sharp 90-degree corners.
